Be Like An OREO

Yep, you read that right. Be like an Oreo. This was one of the points that I jotted down from our Sunday morning service this morning. Let's be for real, when you hear OREO come from the pulpit you know it's gonna be something good connected to it.
This morning’s service was taken from 1 Samuel 20:25 (NIV):“He sat in his customary place by the wall, opposite Jonathan, and Abner sat next to Saul, but David’s place was empty.”
The “He” referenced in this scripture is King Saul. Jonathan is Saul’s son, Abner is Saul’s commander-in-chief, and David, the one anointed to be the next king, was noticeably absent. This single verse speaks volumes. Seating positions mattered. Proximity mattered. And more importantly, the voices surrounding Saul mattered. Saul chose to listen to voices driven by fear, pride, and insecurity rather than the voice of God. Those choices ultimately shaped his downfall. David’s empty seat wasn’t just physical; it represented what happens when divine purpose is rejected because of human emotion. Meanwhile, Jonathan stood in the tension between loyalty to his father and obedience to God’s will, showing us, how critical discernment is when voices compete for our attention. The success and future of our lives can be altered solely by who we allow to sit at our table.
⚠️🚨⚠️🚨Now ladies, warning...no sugar coating ahead. The people we sit with, those we sip coffee or tea with, are the same people we are sharing our lives with. These are the ones who see us unfiltered, hear our fears, our hopes, our frustrations, and our dreams. They are the voices we turn to when we’re unsure, discouraged, or seeking direction.
That’s why it is imperative that the people in our lives who are offering advice, encouragement, and even wisdom are doing so from a God-centered perspective.
Not everyone means harm, but not everyone is aligned with God’s will for your life. Advice that is not rooted in God can feel good in the moment yet quietly lead us away from purpose. The voices we trust shape the choices we make and those choices shape our future. The entire trajectory of your life’s outcomes can be traced back to who you listen to and who you allow close enough to influence your decisions.
So be intentional about your table. Guard your circle. Choose voices that point you back to God, not away from Him. Because voices affect choices and choices determine direction.
I am sure at this point you are wondering, but how does this relate to an Oreo? Well, I am so glad you asked. 😍 And on a side note, I am craving double stuffed Oreos with a tall glass of ice-cold milk......mmmmmmmm. 😍 Okay, sorry back to it. Our pastor dropped a powerful nugget of wisdom this morning when he said: "A safe place to be is like the center cream of an Oreo." On one side of you should be someone receiving from you, which means you are staying in a consecrated place, consistently hearing from God so you can offer Godly counsel on the Lord’s behalf. On the other side of you should be someone you can receive from, a voice that pours wisdom, accountability, and spiritual guidance into your life. This balance matters. When we are only pouring out and never being poured into, we become depleted. And when we are only receiving and never giving, we stunt our spiritual growth. The “center” is the safest place to be, covered, supported, and aligned. Grounded in God. Surrounded by the right voices. Stay in the center. That’s where growth, protection, and purpose meet. HUGE shout out to my Pastor and his wife, Pastor Butch and Mrs. Sue LaBauve.
I am so grateful for the power-packed messages we receive. If you do not have a home church then girlfriend, find a Holy Ghost–anointed church where the presence of God is moving, the Word is preached, and the leadership is aligned with God’s heart.
“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.”, Psalm 92:13 Being planted matters. Growth happens in the right soil. Covering matters. Community matters. When you’re rooted in a church where God is truly moving, your faith is strengthened, your discernment is sharpened, and your life is transformed.
“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another.”— Hebrews 10:25
Don’t just attend, be planted 🌱Because where God plants you, He intends for you to flourish.
While you’re practicing being the Oreo, it won’t hurt to eat a few Oreos to make sure you understand the assignment. 😄🍪 Consider it hands-on training… for spiritual balance and snack purposes only. 😉I hope this post encouraged you the way it did for me. I would love to hear from you. Please comment in the section below👇👇👇
