Luke 2:10–11 "I bring you the most joyous news… a Savior is born.”

Girls, I don’t know about y’all, but something feels different this Christmas season.
Now let me clarify, I’m that girl. The one who puts her Christmas tree up in early November with zero shame. The one who transforms her home into a sparkle-filled sanctuary of red, green, white, and warm white lights. I love when everything glistens and gleams. I love the cozy. I love the tradition. I love my manger scenes and pillowcases that display Jesus ♥ But this year? Even with the lights glowing and the decorations perfectly placed, something feels… off. The season feels louder. Busier. More rushed. More hyped, but somehow less Holy.
When I tell you I was praying, I called my momma to ask her did she feel the same way? I asked her what in the world is wrong with me?? Days went by and this sinking feeling continued. I prayed and asked Jesus, what am I feeling in my spirit, what is wrong with me?? Yall, I bet you already know what His response was..."read My word". Of course it was, I felt ridiculous because I should have known to do that first... LOL So I you can guess what happened next...I went to my Passion Translation Bible, which is amazing...my very best friend blessed me with this bible, and I cherish it so much. I have wanted one for so long!! Oh gosh, I am sorry... there I go on the rabbit trails...sorry sisters. So, I started reading in Luke and WOW it HIT me!! The reason my heart and spirit was so saddened is because we have moved so far away from what Christmas is. And it made me pause and reflect: Christmas didn’t arrive with hype, it arrived with hope. Heaven didn’t market Jesus; it announced Him.
There are so many scriptures and announcements proclaiming OUR SAVIOR is born. mentioned in Luke. Luke 1:35 The Holy Spirit will overshadow you… the child will be called the Son of God. Jesus is not just a human king, He is divinely born, fulfilling prophecy. Luke 2:10–11, I bring you joyful news… a Savior has been born for you. Mary, the mother of Jesus sang a song about the birth of her Son, our Messiah. Yall...this is what we are missing. My spirit was feeling crushed because I was caught up in what foods are we preparing, what games are we playing, what gifts do I have to buy, what price range I have to stay within to buy a gift for a game, making timelines of sending out Christmas Cards (which I absolutely failed at this year, I am sorry to my family and friends.)
Please do not misunderstand me, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with any of this. This time of year, is a beautiful opportunity to reconnect with family, bless one another with gifts, and fill our bellies with delicious food. These moments matter, and they create memories we cherish. At the same time, it’s meaningful to pause and remember why this season exists in the first place. The announcement of Jesus’ birth reminds us that God stepped into humanity with a promise of hope, peace, and salvation. While we enjoy the celebrations, we can also reflect on the greatest gift ever given, “For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and His names are Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace” Isaiah 9:6, born for all people.
Here are 5 simple ways to keep YOUR center, centered on Jesus! Yall, it is JESUS over EVERYTHING:
Start your day with prayer
Thank God for Jesus and ask Him to guide your day, even if it’s just a few words.
Talk about Jesus with your family
Share why His birth matters while eating together or opening gifts.
Choose gratitude over stress
When things feel busy, pause and thank God for His presence.
Read the REAL Christmas story together
Even a few verses from Luke 2 can refocus everyone on Christ.
Show love through kindness
Be patient, forgiving, and generous, living like Jesus is a powerful way to honor Him.
I would love to hear from you. What are some ways you steady your heart and spirit so that Jesus remains the main focus for you and your family during this season? How do you manage the overwhelming stress and obligations that often come with Christmas, while still keeping Christ at the center?
